This is great for when you want to do a little camping but want easy access so you can lug food or firewood you normally wouldn't when you're doing some proper backpacking. The shelter has always been clean when I've been there. There's some overflow camp tent pads nearby but they are kind of annoying to pitch in and are on a slope.

Water source about 1/4 mile down (at a T intersection, the AT makes a sharp right and the blue blazes to water is a sharp left). Typical privy. Was a very welcomed shelter after a rainy day on the trail. RockHopper and I made our first AT overnight here.
